Crested Butte Mountain Heritage Museum

Crested Butte Mountain Heritage Museum

Crested Butte Mountain Heritage Museum

About Us

The Crested Butte Mountain Heritage Museum occupies one of the oldest buildings in Crested Butte. Built in 1883 as a blacksmith shop, the Crested Butte Hardware Store, referred to as Tony’s Conoco, opened the first retail gas pump in 1911. The building served as a local gathering spot for decades as old timers caught up, welcomed new comers and told stories around the pot belly coal stove.

Crested Butte Hardware closed at Tony’s death in 1996 and reopened as the Crested Butte Mountain Heritage Museum in July of 2003.

Seasonal Hours

The Museum is open in the summer from mid-June to early October from 10 AM to 8 PM and in winter from Thanksgiving to early April from 12 to 6 PM. We are also open for Memorial Day Weekend. We are open daily, except Christmas day. Please call for exact opening dates.

Admission

The entire front portion of the Museum is free of charge. This includes the memorial of Crested Butte hardware – the longest running business in Crested Butte, the photo collection of Sandra Cortner, known affectionately as the ‘Crested Butte Personalities’ and a small portion of our historical exhibits. Main Museum admission is $3 for adults and children under 12 are free.

Location

We are located at 331 Elk Avenue in Downtown Crested Butte, at the corner of Fourth St. and Elk Avenue.
