Robbins Ranch

Robbins Ranch

In 2005, 1% for Open Space granted the Gunnison Ranchland Conservation Legacy $5,000 for the purchase of a conservation easement on 420 acres of the Robbin’s Ranch. Robbins Ranch is located west of Gunnison off of Highway 50. Specifically, the ranch is located at the junction of Steuben Creek and Sun Creek between the Beaver Creek State Wildlife Area and the Centennial State Wildlife Area. The location of this ranch, between two wildlife areas preserves a large uninterrupted wildlife corridor and, of course, preserves a beautiful viewshed.

1% for Open Space was happy to support the Gunnison Ranchland Conservation legacy in this effort because properties around Blue Mesa are quickly being snatched up for development. This conservation easement (held by the Colorado Cattleman’s Agricultural Land Trust) prevents this ranchland from being developed, makes it feasible for the Robbins to pass down their ranching way of life to future generations and it preserves the grazing meadows and the integrity of the watershed leading into Blue Mesa. 1% for Open Space partnered with Great Outdoors Colorado, The Gunnison Valley Land Preservation Fund and the Gunnison Ranchland Conservation Legacy to make this conservation easement possible.
