Trampe Ranch

Trampe Ranch

In 2018, 1% for Open Space granted $200,000 to the preservation of 6,000 acres of ranch land owned by the Trampe Family. This land, protected through a partnership between the Trust for Public Land and the Nature Conservancy spans the entire Gunnison Valley. The East River Parcels consists of 2,647 acres in the north valley, the Jack’s Cabin parcel is 284 acres (joining an already preserved 978 acres) mid valley, and the Home Ranch just north of Gunnison consists of 1,917 acres. The conservation easement placed on the Trampe Ranch helps to preserve our agrarian culture, rural lifestyle and pastoral landscape quintessential to this area’s identity and economic viability.

Trampe Ranch covers over 30 miles of landscape-scale terrain and serves as important habitat for the Gunnison Sage-Grouse with lek, brood rearing and winter range territories on the property. Elk, mule deer, black bear, mountain lions, many smaller mammals, and numerous birds all find habitat among this land. 1% for Open Space is thrilled to have helped preserve this land for future generations.
